Estimators are responsible for giving value to the project by evaluating plans and estimating the price of a project. Selling projects is an important aspect of the position, yet more important is the responsibility to build general contractor relationships. An estimator must have knowledge of labor and equipment management in order to work closely with a foreman and project manager. An estimator must pay close attention to detail.
Project Managers are responsible for over‐seeing the transition of an estimate to a completed building. They must oversee multiple commercial jobs and act as the liaison between the general contractor, foremen, and field employees. By monitoring and reporting the construction progress and quality standards, the project manager must be able to coordinate manpower and equipment needs for each project. They are responsible for building relationships with the contractor, owners, and architects.
Foremen are the skilled and experienced company representatives in the field responsible for coordinating work flow with the general contractor. Through the analysis of blueprints, specs, and scope of work, the foremen manage and track the necessary labor and communicate with the general contractor and project manager on scheduling and jobsite progress. Foremen have a crucial role of monitoring safety and ensuring production on site.
Journeymen are the skilled and experienced employees capable of high production in the areas they specialize in. Journeymen are the employees that are next in line for being a foremen but either require more experience or prefer their daily job.
Apprentices are the employees eager to learn a trade in order to specialize and become skilled labor. Apprentices are given a foreman or journeyman to shadow in the field to ensure proper training
Laborers are generally in high demand in order to keep the site running safe, smooth, and clean. By transporting materials and working closely with the other men in the field, laborers can quickly adapt to the construction industry. Drywall Systems understands the importance of advancement in the company, and works with laborers to get them on track for an apprenticeship.
